The question was not whether my expectations of benefits were met or not - the question is whether SPG actually sides an unhappy customer or its policies.
When I was Marriott Silver (Platinum was yet to come next year) and was staying in Marriott and THOUGHT that there was some unusual smell in my room (even though the hotel claimed there could not be anything wrong with that particular room), the hotel without further hesitation credited me one night worth of stay (which was not of much benefit to me as I was in a business trip, but this customer attitude very strongly imprinted in my memory). Doing exactly what Marriott did earned that chain my loyalty and essentially 75+ nights next year. If there were a Marriott inside Amsterdam airport terminal I bet you Sheraton would not even get its chance to get me as a guest
