I have a flight in a couple of weeks flying MCO-LAX-PHX. MCO-LAX can be hit or miss on a tuesday so I decided to use miles to upgrade. When I called to upgrade the MCO-LAX segment was upgraded immediately. It was strange, however, that the LAX-PHX segment is 'waitlisted' for an upgrade. All first class seats on the LAX-PHX are unoccupied and by looking at the seat map all of the "premium coach seats" are still available. I'm sure I would clear this upgrade without the miles but it seems strange they would waitlist this flight. So my question is....since I'm using an upgrade instrument will I be at the top of the upgrade list as long as I am the only one using an upgrade instrument?
