The question is actually on behalf of my son who is primarily a UA flyer but will be flying US in a couple of weeks with two companions. Was wondering if his NON-US *S status would equate to the same rules US has for their own silver elites.
If, as you say, your son is a Star Alliance SILVER; he will be able to check up to 2 bags at no charge (overweight bag fees still apply). I am not 100% positive of the reservation carry over for the same policy for accompanying passengers, but I am sure that is the case with them as well.
