As an aside, I also have 100K Chase points (can go to CO or Hyatt is what I am thinking) and 25K AA miles. My significant other has 150K AA points, 50K CO points and 50K Chase points.
I am CO Plat for 2011 and will be gold or plat for 2012. In past I have used miles for last minute domestic fares which are too $$ with cash. Going forward I am going to use miles for international travel, which may also be relatively last minute (i.e. booked 2 months in advance vs. 330 days in advanace). International travel is TBD.. but anywhere.. South America.. Asia.. Europe.. and would be economy or business TBD.. (we are fine going economy to stretch the miles!)
If CO gave a 50% bonus this would be easy.. for complexity sake I would transfer the miles to CO. But with BA 50% bonus and the SO's 150K AA miles, I am wondering transferring more miles to AA makes sense. I do have 400K CO and can get probalby another 100K via MR transfer in a few weeks.. I'm not sure if I want to do the 100K from Chase though since I like the idea of using at top-tier Hyatts...
Any advice?? BA 50% bonus ends 7/31! I know BA people love BA miles (unlimited stopovers), but what do CO folks think... is CO Platinum better redemption than a BA nobody redemption but with 50% more miles?
Thank you for all the advice!! I'm stressing out!
It depends on what you want to do with them. Remember, BA = YQ on BA flights. That's significant cash outlay. You end up paying what you'd spend in coach anyway. This won't necessarily apply on partners, though, so you could use BA miles on AA, for instance without paying ridonkulous fuel surcharges.
Since you have a pretty healthy CO balance, I don't see why maxing out your OneWorld side is a bad idea. Makes for interesting possibilities on award (*A one way, OW the way back). Just remember that BA miles will cost you a lot of cash to fly on BA metal...
