USA to NZ is NOT "Intercontinental" for UA 55555 Promo?

I did not believe it either, but my angel at UA was chuckling about it today. The "fly five Star carriers for 55555 miles' requires UA point recipients to have some "Intercontinental" flights, whereas most of ther Star partners do not: "At least one intercontinental roundtrip on a single airline is required."

Says MP have given him a firm ruling to pass on to a customer who asked that this is indeed the case. Seems very odd to me, of course NZ is NOT part of the continent of Australia, so techically they are correct, but gee .............

Please be sure to double check this info if you are one of the 'Star runners' adding this VERY long, expensive flight to your itinerary, and then picking up a real cheap Air NZ short domestic flight, to snag another partner. And the cheap TG AKL-SYD-AKL leg for three partners - which of course is also not 'intercontinental'.
