I had a similar experience here at an Illinois Kroger grocery store. The clerks can't ring up alcohol if they are under 21, so they have to get a somebody older to do it. That's not unusual. The unusual part was the bagger told me that if I buy something other than alcohol with my alcohol purchase, he is allowed to touch the alcohol when he is bagging the groceries. If I had only purchased alcohol, he is not allowed to touch the alcohol. He was only allowed to place my 6 pack in the cart because I had also bought food.
