We stayed in one Marriott and one Hilton in Hawaii on our honeymoon. At the time, we held Gold status with both.
I mentioned the honeymoon in the comments for both stays. On both stays, we received a nice welcome amenity - a bottle of sparkling wine plus a snack.
At Marriott (Ren Wailea), we confirmed the highest possible "normal" room category and did not get further upgraded. I didn't want to take a chance that we wouldn't get it, and I didn't expect any kind of suite upgrade beyond that.
At Hilton (HWV), we booked a normal award stay and received a pretty good upgrade - top floor, ocean tower, great view. Best one could expect short of a suite.
So even a Hawaii hotel certainly can do some small things for you...but like others have said, it's both a popular place for honeymoons and a popular place for Plats and PPs to blow some points, so don't go in with high expectations.
