How to hit AMEX min spend for bonus points

AMEX and other similar cards offer bonus points (described on other threads) so long as you spend £1,500, say, within 3 months on the card. This can be a problem as Amex isn't accepted in that many places, especially for large purchases. Supermarkets, petrol stations and hotels generally take it.

In the past, the Paypal card worked very well (you could top up the card on Amex and use the paypal card to pay off the Amex bill) but that's now finished.

I have on occasion used the Paypal feature to invoice myself/my wife which can then be paid off using Amex - but this costs around 3% so fine for the BMI £250 offer if you're running short of time but expensive for a £1500 spend.

Paying business expenses can work, especially hotels, but some firms aren't very keen on it.

Any thoughts or ideas on how else to use the card to hit these spending limits, even if it costs something.
