My understanding is that there are 2 separate programs available:

1) eStandby - which allows you to request and/or pay for an upgrade that you receive only if one is available at check-in.

2) Room Upgrade - which allows you to use points to guarantee a room upgrade in advance, so long as some are available *at the time you pay for hte upgrade (ie. not at checkin)*.

I see that when I make my reservation I get the eStandby option, but how do I access the Room Upgrade thing? Because my reservation was an advance purchase reservation and I don't have access to change it does this mean I can't use the Room Upgrade program? If it wasn't advance purchase, would I access this program by going in and modifying my reservation, or is there another way to access it?

I'm about to make another booking, and I want to see what the points required to upgrade the room would be. I'm considering paying cash for the standard room, then using points to upgrade it, but I can't figure out where to see the points required to upgrade? If it's too high I might just do the Cash+Points to book the upgraded room using the Premium Room Rewards program...
