One other big rule I always stick to is regarding your toiletries etc. Have two sets, a home set and a work / travel set. Means you always have them packed and don't have to swap at the weekend. You can guarantee that if you have one lot and swap, you will forget them within a few weeks and end up buying some on the road in any case. Also makes packing quicker - which makes a difference as it means you can pack quickly and easily on a Sunday so you don't worry too much about it. Helps you have a weekend with family and friends then.

Agree on the toiletries. I also keep a pair of running shoes in my bag. Anything that you can afford duplicates of is a great stree reliever. I also keep a spare pair of eyeglasses in my suitcase. I wear contacts during the day and was miserable the first time I forgot to pack my regular evening glasses. Now I have cheap pair of glasses that I always keep in my suitcase.
