I have a look at Google Earth Street View before I go somewhere new. I can get a visual idea of where to turn, etc. A quick glance is all I really need, as I don't usually have a problem with directions.

I have a good friend who is very directionally challenged. I told her about Google Earth Street View and how it helps me. Now, her loving and patient husband (a true saint) looks up her route on Google Earth and prints out the Street View with red circles and arrows showing her where she needs to exit the freeway, turn, etc.

She goes to a new city with a stack of print-outs, all carefully numbered and labeled. Her husband is truly a wonderful man. (It makes up for his expensive hobbies.)
