I just went to the bus station and took a public bus to Sukhothai. Hilly but easy ride. Nice tropical scenery.
A few words of advice for Sukhothai.
- There are two parts to the city, the new part and the old part. You should know which part that you want to stay in before you arrive. That way you know where to go when you arrive!!! This is a pretty important point.
- The airport is not very close to the city. Make sure you budget enough time for that and check with Bangkok airways about what time their bus leaves to go to the airport. I very nearly made my flight and had to rent a song taew just for myself. It was expensive because I didn't know how far the airport was from the city. I'm sure I made that driver's week though!!
