No, WMATA (also knows as Metro) is DC's system. MTA is NYC.
If that happens on WMATA, it's usually because some idiot rushes his family onto the train after the "doors are closing" announcement.
I have no shortage of complains about WMATA , but the one that they are good about is checking that nobody or no item is stuck in the doors. Not only do they have automatic sensors that tell them the door is open, but the driver physically sticks his head out of the front car to look.
