My experience with posting miles from Hilton stay is that you have to monitor it closely. It post one or two days after you checking out. If you catch it right away before the miles # was sent through the partners, you can have it corrected on the spot. Once it is sent off, it is very hard and indeed asking for additional points may be the easier way.
