Ehm .. eh .. no. A flight to Europe doesn't take 16 hours. The longest one you can find is SFO-FRA which runs at about 10 hours and 30 minutes. And is all you'd ever get in E+ right?
Do you know anything about autism and epilepsy at all?
Yes ... but that doesn't really change the duration of the flight unless it leads to a medical emergency which we both hope it won't.
E+ makes a HUGE difference in our travel -why else would I pay more for flights and take only STAR ALLIANCE members?

We just came back from a transpacific flight where we paid 200$ more and sat in vancouver an extra 4 hours just to fly within the STAR ALLIANCE.
But you declined a 2 hours earlier departure. This puts the whole thing in perspective!

And you booked a connection on JK, hence indicating that you can deal with a very confined environment.

It quite likely has little to do with the nasty agent. I got booted from E+ when I had a companion on a different reservation (revenue for that matter) and crosslinked PNR.
To the IT crosslinks mean very little, upon a sweep you get booted in my experience. It is not a single PNR.

Certainly both accounts are correct. I was even able get a non-elite who booked independently of myself into E+. That is with agent or at the airport.

How the IT does interpret the rules is entirely different. The OP made good experiences so far .. but in my experiences I have been booted from E+ more often than not when traveling with a non-elite companion on different but linked PNRs. So naturally, I perceive this as quite normal.
