In New York, I've noticed since moving here that people sort of stand to the sides on the platform, but frequently start getting on the train from the sides of the doors while people are still trying to get off. It's very annoying. The other day some annoying lady wouldn't get out of my way as I was getting off the train, so I kind of accidentally-on-purpose ran my shoulder into her as I was getting off the train.

New Yorkers are perhaps as rude as their reputation...and I'm apparently becoming one. What's up with this?
They're probably trying to get to JFK in a hurry.

(Sorry gfunkdave -- I couldn't resist.)

I'm not sure that what you observed on the subway is true at all times at every station. And I can distinctly recall the time I waited patiently on the platform while a woman took her time getting off the train; as a result, the train door closed before I could board, and I had to wait for another train! So sometimes the rudeness is on the part of those who do not "step lively" when getting off the train.
