Is it common to charge maintenance fee for [prepaid gift] debit card?
I received a $75 debit card as a rebate for a computer equipment purchase about a year ago. I noticed there is a expiration date of Sept/2011 when I received card. It stayed on the counter top until recently and I put it into my wallet....
Today I used the card to pay for my grocery. I thought the balance of the card should cover the entire purchase but some how it was short. I was curious what was going so did some checking. I found the back of the card has a tracking number which can give all transaction history at their website. Looks like the debit card company started to deduct $3 maintenance fee each month after 6 months the card was issued.
This is my first debit card of such kind and never know there is a monthly fee after 6 month, should have used it long time ago.
I am wondering if this is common for debit card company to charge monthly fee? Also I don't recall the computer supply company who gave the rebate disclosed the debit card T&C. Seems I have to accept the debit card company's T&C automatically in this case by accepting to receive the rebate.
