As a point of reference, I just did YYZ-HKG-YYZ on CX in J for 100k miles and USD356 in fees/taxes.
That is pretty much what I expect - around $350 to $400 taxes.
I tried to tell my friend that it does not make much difference between class of service because the YQ/YR is distance-based.
He was wrapped in the notion that was sub $200 because he flew US-based airlines last year and paid just about $100 taxes... Told him no way if he was to fly BA...
