Yep, totally agree. Just had exactly that the other day - LAX-AKL flight was delayed. Result would have been to wheel my baggage to AKL domestic myself and actually run while doing that and having had no option for a coffee and a quick shower in the lounge.
About 4 or 5 hrs out of landing in AKL Concierge rebooked me on a later domestic connection and sorted everything out.
Also agreeing with what another member said - they do provide quite a bit of extra value and convenience if one is GE and flying economy.
