There was nearly a 3rd incident earlier this year, and I had already gone to the lost baggage desk. For some reason my bag had been loaded onto the wrong belt at T5 and they STILL managed to locate it and bring it to me in less than 10 minutes (how?????!!)
I had nearly the same and what I learnt was that at the entry and exit to the belts at T5 the have barcode scanners so when you go to the counter to ask about it they scan your code and can tell exaclty which belt it is on and roughly where + how many times it has gone around etc.
