No, but read the terms of use for the upgrade certificates themselves. I believe you will find they require paid stays by their own terms.

Also using the Free Night Certificates. Are you unable to switch and use the Certificate for a Points held room?
Generally reported on this board as being a favor for Diamonds only.
Historically done for Diamonds at least in the FFN promos. I think we did something similar when the credit card was announced but not yet available.

(But I'm not sure I understand your context here. You want to hold nights now with points and convert them to . . .what? Free night certificates you will get if you successfully apply for the credit card?)
