In fairness, recordings provide irrefutable proof of what you recorded, not necessarily what happened. Start the recording a few seconds late or stop it a few seconds early and you may only get part of the story. Give it a title such as "Delta Sucks" and people watch it with a preconceived notion and then magically it fits exactly what they were expecting to see.
You're exactly right, of course, and I would never try to argue that an incomplete recording proves what happened in a situation (complete recordings are different, of course).
But I'm still wary of any organization that records me but refuses to allow the reverse to happen. That changes things entirely -- recordings cease being an archive of the event and become an instrument of power.
