Just as
William S and
SFO777 already explained if you decide to go to the FCT.
But don't assume your flight from DTW will arrive at an A gate. For the last couple of days it was a remote apron arrival with a bus ride to International Arrivals B.
If you arrive at an A gate the most convenient lounge will be the FCL A (I didn't know it had been closed...). You have to clear immigration but the FCL A is right next to passort control by gate A65. Arrivals from the US should no longer require security check before a connecting flight but I'm not sure how/if this has been implemented. The departure gate for FCO should be from a Schengen A gate just down the stairs from the FCL A. Going to the FCL A should give you a little more time in the lounge than going to the FCT.

You will have to go through passport control whether you are going to the FCT or FCL A. You will go through security as you enter the FCT. If you arrive at an A gate you may or may not have to go through security, but if you arrive at a bus gate you will have to go through security in order to go to the FCL A.
I would go to the FCL A if the DTW flight arrives at an A gate but to the FCT if you arrive at a bus gate.
