I assume this is all on one ticketed itinerary. As long as your flight arrives on time, and your checked baggage goes all the way to Bangkok directly, you should be OK. You will have to go through Chinese immigration, but not the regular queues--look for the special desk(s) marked for International Transit/Transfers, it won't take long to get through there. Then go back airside for your connection. Yes, there will be a security checkpoint. That TG flight is often delayed a bit on boarding and departure. When on time, it usually starts boarding about 16:30-ish. You won't have time to dally, though.
If you are on two separate tickets, this may not be a legal connection, so UA may not agree to interline your bags. And 1.5 hours to go through regular immigration, pick up bags, then go upstairs to check in, then through exit immigration and security...isn't enough time. If your UA flight arrives late, you will have issues. Have you considered connecting to the Air China flight PEK-BKK, which leaves a couple of hours later?
