Again I don't think most people are really afraid of getting sick. It's the disgust or squeamishness factor that's coming into play.
You really wouldn't have a problem using a remote that you knew had just been handled by someone with BM residue? You would not mind sitting on a desk chair immediately after someone who just sat naked on it? You wouldn't mind picking up a remote immediately after a guy finished using that same remote while watching hotel porn and "relieving" himself with that same hand?
If you are being honest and would not have a problem with these scenarios, I would think you are in a significant minority.
