What this does not solve is the possibility that the gentleman put a bomb in his colostomy bag, as extremely unlikely as that is, and to make that even more unlikely, risk assessment can be done.
Again, not universally needed, but for people like him, like Sharon Cissna, those kinds of things could be done rather than grope them.
I would think that with conditions like Sawyer's (ostomy bag) and Cissna (breast cancer scars/prosthesis) could be declared and verified as part of 'Trusted Traveller', but that isn't going to happen.
Even TSA acknowledges that background checks are no guarantee of future behavior (while granting virtually unlimited free access to the sterile areas for screeners based on a single excuse for a background check). That's true. Someone with a perfectly clean past record can suddenly go off the rails.
However, I'm not aware of too many ways to reverse or alter a profound medical condition like wearing an ostomy bag or having breast cancer scars/prostheses. So a 'Trusted Traveller' should also be offered the opportunity to provide proof of a medical condition.
I'm quite sure that if Pistole was wearing an ostomy bag or Nappy had a breast prosthesis, they would not be going to the back room every time they fly.
