SFO is UA's biggest maint base. Since when does UA fly the CRJ/CR7? If that flying was insourced to UA, I bet many UA pilots would be very happy.

Right...This is not a SkyWest Maint base...the plane actually was going to COS, which is a SkyWest maint base. This is probably one reason why the plane got routed to COS vs another city because the plane needed to get serviced.
SkyWest also don't stock many parts at the outstations if any (and yes...this includes places like SFO and LAX), so the plane just needs to be "good enough" to make to one of the maint bases.
If you live/flying to a SkyWest Maintenance base, i.e. COS, SLC, TUS, FAT and its the last flight of the evening, chances are (these days...its about 80% chance) you WILL get saddled with a plane that needs some work done to it overnight. i.e. seats, INOP lav, coffee maker out....etc
The GA didn't handle this well. This should have been addressed before boarding and its not like the FA's were new and chances are they have had/dealt with an INOP jump seat before. They are fairly senior.
