But that's what it was, especially in the case of Knochenhaueramtshaus... and it is even explained in the German Wikipedia if you look at the right pages.
Among art historians this kind of belated reconstructions is regarded with a grain of salt. Knochenhaueramtshaus was at least a rebuilding in the original technique, as opposed to many others that are in fact modern concrete buildings with just a "wallpaper" facade. The worst example of such a fake I can think of is the Schloss in Braunschweig but I could just as well name the projected Stadtschloss in Berlin.
