And what does that mean? That they did not
finish rebuilding in 1948? It still does not say anything about "replicas" or putting up and tearing down new replacement buildings.
The point is that telling someone a historic old town is filled with "replicas" is not very accurate nor is it very encouraging. You should go to Rothenburg ob der Tauber sometime and see if you can tell which part of the city is "replicas". A section of the city was "accidentally" bombed near the end of the war, then reconstructed.
I'm with Kathrin - a visit to Hildesheim is worth the trip.
