I just returned from the Westin St. John Resort. We stayed 5 nights on SPG points and then rented a condo in Cruz Bay. We enjoyed our stay. We've been here other times and the Westin did not disappoint. We were upgraded to a beachfront room, but don't expect that even if you're gold or plat. We asked kindly (we're both gold) and it was only available for part of the stay and we said that's fine, we'll take it and move when you tell us to. Generally, we've never had a problem anywhere we go as long as you treat others with respect and not be demanding or expecting too much. St. John is laid back and some just don't get it. I fit in there very well and just chill out.

The pool is the best in the Virgin Islands. If it isn't your style, then that's your taste, but we find it beautifully landscaped and refreshing. They resurfaced the whole pool recently. The beachfront room was also updated. The beachfront rooms are smaller than the other rooms (we already knew that). I enjoyed the ocean view room as much as beachfront so don't sweat it if you don't get upgraded to beachfront.

The staff was exceptional this stay. The food at Snorkels (the main one by the dock) was actually some of the best meals we had on the island. The filet mignon and lobster tail was excellent and my wife ordered that twice. The filet was so tender you could cut it with a fork easily (and not even rare).

Only issues:
#1 Please GM, look into the care of Esmeralda, the scarlet Macaw. Guests noticed that her cage has been moved and isolated from the other birds and from people. I realize she may be temperamental with some staff, but she responds wonderfully with guests who show her love and gentleness. Birds need attention and some interaction. Esmeralda seemed depressed and lonely from the isolation. Maybe there have been problems with her near the busy walk areas that we aren't aware of, but this was disturbing and needs the manager's attention. It may seem like a minor thing to some, but to those of us who care for Macaws and other animals it can ruin a stay thinking about it.
#2 The wifi doesn't work in many rooms including beachfront. So, we have to use the Westin's 2 PCs up at the front. Our iPad never could get wifi except sometimes at the pool area. Never worked in room or on balcony.
#3 Please parents - keep your kids out of the hot tub. The hotel isn't able to raise the temperature up to the normal 102 because they know kids under 12 are getting in that pool because their parents are ignorant about the danger to children under 12 that can come about from dipping back and forth from the pool to the hot tub. Children's organs aren't fully able to adjust to the temperature and that's why signs are posted at hot tubs limiting ages to over 16 many places. Kids don't need to soak their 'sore' muscles in a hot tub like us older folks (I'm in my 40's and in good shape, but like the hot water therapy hot tubs provide). Your kids use it like a kiddy pool.
Oh, and the hot tub seems to finally be working as they finally listened to the pool maintenance folks who told them they just needed more air intake to get the jets more powerful, not just a new pump. Their new engineer listens and we are all grateful. Thank you pool staff for your help. You were all very nice!

We hope to return to the Westin St. John in the future. It was a lot of fun. Thanks for an awesome stay!
