I just returned from 11 nights at the St. Regis as well as 8 nights at the MO BKK. Without going into too many details, I liked the St. Regis better than MO BKK. Being newer and modern, the facilities are much nicer, especially rooms. The Caroline Astor Suite is superb with outstanding views, great layout, and very large bathroom. I stayed in a Grand Deluxe room that overlooked the sports club and it was very nice - larger than the deluxe rooms at the Oriental with a much nicer shower/bath, Remede bath products which I like better than the MO branded ones, and a closed off toilet. It is also nicely decorated and has all the technological amenities (ipod dock, wifi, many charging ports/plugs, etc...).

Breakfast at Vue was also of excellent quality and served as a combo al la carte and buffet. This worked well as you could order and receive your hot dishes fresh and then feel free to get all other items from the buffet. They have excellent homemade yogurt, a wide array of fruit, both tropical and also fresh strawberries, blueberries, etc... and a decent selection of baked goods.

The service at St. Regis is still a work in progress, but everyone is very friendly, young, and full of energy. Our butler was also very nice and genuinely concerned about our stay. I would've said service at MO was better except for 2 incidences during our stay there:

1) We had a very surely waiter one night at Veranda. We returned a dessert of mango, sticky rice as we felt the coconut sauce may have been sour. After taking it she returned and made a point to tell us there was nothing wrong with it. She then proceeded to stand about 3 feet from our table and would look at her watch occasionally....it was only 10pm and Veranda closes at 1am! We got her name and I reported this to the management.

2) Similar to our stay at the Peninsula last year, there was a room on our non-smoking floor that had the door open to the hallway and several were smoking. The smoke had permeated everywhere and when I informed the floor butler he was suppose to look into it. The next day I received a call from the duty manager offering to move us to another non-smoking room. I would've thought it might be easier to move the smokers to a smoking floor than inconvenience us, but nonetheless, this is what they wanted to do. After this, I cancelled our remaining 11 nights and went to the St. Regis. I am really glad we made the switch.

BTW, they are nearly finished with a skybridge that will directly link the St. Regis with the Ratchadamri BTS station. That will really make this a great location.
