But I really do think that if your entire family is able to find three weeks off to spend together, it would be a shame to not take that opportunity and spend the extra week in Australia. Or even route through HKG or SIN and spend the week there. You really can go to California any time, even for a weekend - that's not feasible when it takes 16 hours of flying each way.
