Didn't expect to see my old thread returning but:

(1) you can transfer amounts on one TransitCheck Visa card to another (and build up a big enough balance on one that way to pay for a ticket)
(2) I have used TransitCheks to pay for Amtrak trips in plenty of areas and on transit systems around the country
