Recourse does not necessarily mean suing people. It might simply to go back to the prescriber and asking for further information. He should also know your medical history hopefully to deal with the problem appropriately. If you have very little faith in the medics, obviously it's up to you to self-medicate. But I do not see why you should be telling people that seeing a doctor would be an awful suggestion. As you have admitted, it is an exaggeration and probably quite inappropriate.

A significant portion of the drugs mentioned here can actually be obtained legally in the UK or the US without a prescription
But not what you were arguing about, e.g. zopiclon, temazepam, alprazoram etc, at least not within the UK (personal import excluded).

I think it was you that twisted BA304's words as if he were saying "You must seek your doctor's advice, and trust everything he says" - your comment that it was 'awful' can only have come from assuming something like that. It is only sensible that people do see their doctor about prescription drugs - there may be a reason why they should not take a particular drug they want to take but would not know about it without seeing their doctor. I cannot agree that seeing a doctor to discuss sleeping tablets could possibly be a bad thing unless one believes everything at face value. As for Wikipedia - I prefer to read MIMS if I want information on drugs and go back to my textbooks (no I am not a doctor).

I also think drugs are quite individual thing - temazepam does absolutely nothing for me, and zopiclon does nothing as well as giving me me a double vision the next day, yet my husband finds zopiclon much better for helping him to sleep and temazepam leaves him a little drowsy the next day. The only way I can get to sleep is if I am genuinely naturally sleepy nowadays.

Anyway, I suppose this is a futile discussion. I'm sure people here are mature enough to make up their own mind about what to take and how to get them so what we are doing is to argue rather pointlessly.
