Not necessarily. As I said just because a credit card is "closed" the credit card company may have the provision that if the card is used anytime in the next X months, it is automatically reactivated and a valid charge.
Make sure you specifically tell the credit card company that you want the card closed with no way to have it reacitivated. This means all charges will be deinied and you will have to reapply for a card with them.
The ability of credit card companies to automatically reactivate a closed card may have dissapeared with the recent overhaul but I am not sure so check when you close a card.
