The rules regarding fishing rods haven't changed even remotely recently. Even if the screener didn't know for some reason, a printout wouldn't do anything, as it would all depend on the idiocy of CATSA management on site that day (It's the blind leading the blind over there). With that being said, not even CATSA would mess up so badly as to not let you bring a fishing rod on-board as long as it was carry-on sized.
