As far as checking this out BEFORE I booked it, my only crime was to actually believe the Cathay Pacific rep, rather than have relied on myself.
And what exactly did the Cathay rep say? You should have just looked up a picture of the seat, as you have done now, before paying up $100 for the seat. And you are basing all of this off of just a simple image search; maybe trust me, who flies around 64k miles on this route alone (all in 31A), or other FTers or CX staff. Don't worry about it and enjoy the flight. I'm sure it'll be great.
