Seriously, USAir getting anywhere near Alaska would be an unbelievable disaster, and would absolutely destroy what Alaska has built.

I can take a flight on AS from SEA to SMF (a pretty regular run from me), and can usually expect two full drink/snack services and probably a coffee pass as well. They work hard and care, and it shows.

Meanwhile, on my last (company-booked) trip on US last week (PHX to CMH), we got a single beverage service at the beginning of the flight, followed immediately by a quick run down the aisle with cups and a bottle of water. (And nobody took it, since we already had full drinks.) The FAs then disappeared for the three remaining hours of the flight. I actually went back a couple of times for coffee myself.

Please, US, keep away from Alaska!
