iirc, you can stopover in lax going either way as long as the flights are to or from oz...i suspect that you know that & your routing to/from lax & us home doesn't matter....so start looking....hopefully you will find flights that will work.....good luck...
Agree. I might add if you phone AA for these seats and if the agent tells you it isn't allowed, thank them, hang up and call back later or the next day.
That approach worked for me.
