Lots of people called him names too. Regular folk and powerful men thought he was a huge PITA.
One guy even said something to the effect that he was a troublesome individual who by behaving as he did, "in such an evident, repeated, and audacious manner, is a provocation to public order, to the administration of justice and is definitely contrary to the aims of justice."
Good thing he stood up for himself, and for others, and showed a bit of persistence. He helped make things just a little bit better for everyone.
