The issue with AI is, as always, irrops, which to the best of my knowledge affects the front of the plane exactly as much as the back. And if there is a midair crash because the pilots covered the windshield with newspaper, again, the caviar won't cushion the blow sufficiently.
Pffffft you do realize that pilots rely on a lot more than their eyesight to avoid mid-air crashes. And that Air India is not the only airline where pilots cover the windshield (or parts of it) to keep out the sun, even (especially) at cruising altitude? Trawl the A.net database and you'll find scores of pics from airlines across the globe where pilots are doing exactly the same.
