Yes and unless he's really valuable to the company, if he appears with a doctors note detailing some condition and they aren't all that sympathetic with his plight they might just see him as a liability and earmark him for the boot.
Or possibly no trip at all for him, for fear of litigation for 'work-related injury/exacerbation of existing conditions', resulting in no miles or TPs for him.
