If you're connecting on any other airline (DL/B6/UA), you'd need to proceed to that respective terminal.
If you are travelling to JFK on Jet Airways, it's best if you book your onward travel on AA. But Jet doesn't belong to One World or any other alliance. nor can you accumulate status miles on Jet for a mileage programme. Message jet is giving is that it doesn't care about those passengers who care about miles.
Jet Airways is being foolish by not joining an alliance. Based on criticism I had heard of AI, I was reluctant to travel by AI, but found it to be quite good. I am not about to throw my money down the train by travelling on a carrier that doesn't allow me to earn miles on my FF programme.
