The Star Alliance Harmonised Lounge Access Policy
According to SAS, such a policy exists. I sure wish the Star Alliance would publish it on their website.
I've now seen how Singapore Airlines will treat Star Gold members and it's 3rd rate. You will not get into the SQ Silver Kris lounge in Singapore unless you are travelling outbound on SQ in business class or first class in which case you would not need to be Star Gold anyhow. The Silver Kris lounge is really two lounges - First Class and Raffles (Business) Class. And even on arrival if you had been travelling with SQ in first class or business class, you still will not get into the Silver Kris lounge. Instead you are sent to the Premier lounge, which I can tell you is not a scratch on the Silver Kris. It's a very ordinary lounge with just about zero facilities, no windows and poor furniture. Other airlines such as SAS and LH allow Star Gold members into a lounge that is better than their regular business class lounges. They also allow access to arriving passengers.
Please Star Alliance, give us a simple and consistent lounge access policy. And please give us consistent standards in the lounges. Don't let SQ treat us as 3rd rate customers.
Now that the Alliance is getting so big, it's getting easier to earn status points and I think that some members set the level for Gold too low. Rather than offer us crappy lounges, keep the Gold level special. SAS raised the qualifying level for Gold last year and I suspect it may be raised again. Some airlines need just 50000 miles to get Gold status. Is this too low?
