I guess it all depends on a lot of things; I am at Hyatt often in Japan or Europe. I agree the parents of some children need a good slap once in a while, the lounge is not the baby sitter as the parents are too engrossed at the time to care. Sadly, they ignore their children as they run, scream or chase one another around the seated guests with impunity, play in the food or sometimes throw nuts at each other.

I actually pity the staff on this one, with the way parents are concerning their children, I fear for the poor lounge attendant that says a word to a parent about their unruly child. I feel it would be a grave mistake as no parent would take that from anyone, even if they know their child is the culprit and the person telling them was truly just trying to help the other guests enjoy the facilities.

I once read a post about kids in planes kicking the seat in front of them and how parents were writing back saying “if someone told my child to behave I would deck them,” I guess they have never experienced how annoying that constant kicking can be, so do any of us truly believe a lounge staff should say something?

However, for food diggers, I can't say its just the children in my experience, I have seen children with a parent beside them digging in the food with their fingers, and even grown men in the lounge digging through the food with their fingers, some of them actually picking things off the serving plate, more than once and eating it while they stand over the food licking their fingers and then getting another or eating things at the table and then walking back to get more and dumping the things they did not like back into the food on offer.

I am not sure where they learned manners or what ever you would care to call these actions, it is just plain ridicules to be putting food back at any age, or picking through food with fingers, when utensils are sitting right there. Have they not heard of the things that can be passed on to others with these kinds of actions, or do they just not care?

I guess the only thing I haven’t seen is someone taking a big swig from a bottle of wine or champagne and then putting it back on the counter, wow that just gave me chills writing that, mostly because now I am wondering if I just missed seeing it, and to those thinking it, no I am not paranoid, practical maybe, believer in Murphy, most definitely. So, if it can happen it will.

Both of the men I saw fingering the food were not really that young (maybe 45+) and either from the Euro zone or the Americas. I said something to one guy and he looked at me like I was out of my mind for actually saying something to him but he didn't care, needless to say I left the lounge after telling the staff fairly loudly what he was doing as I pointed at him. I did not expect the staff would say anything, sadly, I guess it just comes down to doing the right thing as people, but it seems no one takes responsibility for their own actions anymore, or not so often.

I guess a lot of readers might think I was wrong to point the person out, and in hindsight I see it was a bit pointless, I just felt compelled to say something, I was not about to eat anything else that was for sure, and wanted others to be informed to make their own judgment concerning the things they were then eating, but I feel now I was wrong, I should have just let him do his thing and left the lounge.

As for the statement about Waikiki or other US club rooms offering less like they do "inline with Asia", the beer, whiskey, wine and sparkling wine are still free of charge in Japan and they serve a lot more food than was on offer compared to Waikiki, which I visited a few months ago.

However, I may be wrong about Waikiki now and to be fair, I visited the old lounge and the amount of food may have increased with the newer larger digs.

I myself think the influx of guests we are going to be seeing in the next few years are going to be coming from China, but that is just what I am seeing right now at the Hyatt’s I visit.

For edgwood49, I do enjoy the Park in Paris and I agree it is one of the best, however, I would have to say Milan is over the top and in my opinion, (so far) I love both cities, however to be fair, I have been to Paris so many more times than Milan. Shoot thinking about it, Hyatt has so many impressive hotels, it is hard to say with certainty which one is the best; I guess we all have our preferences. There are a lot of Hyatt’s I have yet to visit, but I am trying. I truly loved the Maui Hyatt, great staff, excellent shows and it is on Maui. In Waikiki I was barely at the hotel, but to sleep, but I did like the hotel grounds and location.

Thanks for reading my post, this is just my opinion and we all know what that is worth, just some things I have seen in the Hyatt lounges around the world, and hopefully your mileage may very.

Happy, safe travels to all.
