CHICAGO, October 15, 1999 -- On the occasion of the official welcome ceremony of ANA into Star Alliance, and the announcement of Singapore Airlines that it will join the global partnership next year, the Chief Executive Officers of the member airlines expressed their unanimous support for Air Canada's efforts to remain an independent and strong partner.

"We stand together in full support of the actions taken by our partner, and will take whatever steps necessary, including making a financial commitment, to protect the interest of our partnership and its customers."
