But unless Varig have re-instated the route in the last week it has been at least a year since Varig pulled out of the HKG-BKK-GRU route. What I'm not sure of is if they have also pulled out of the JNB-GRU route. I know they code-share on the two SA flights but I'm not sure if they still have their own flights. As you know non-alliance operated code-shares are not permitted on the STAR RTW fare which also rules out BKK-JNB on TG as this is also SA operated.

So I stand by my assessment that connections in the Southern Hemisphere are a bit of a hole for STAR.
