(Note: I tried to look on terms and conditions but what it seems to say is 'retail' purchases. Is retail restricted to outdoor shopping?)

Final question... If, as I am beginning to suspect, SC card does not reward online purchases, which card is the best for online purchasing?

Thanks very much
SCB Platinum gets points on online purchases.

I'm not saying this out of first hand experience cos there's no way I'll charge an online purchase to my SCB Platinum.
But my SCB Priority Banking Visa Infinite (PB VI) has the same bonus point program T&C as the Platinum and I'm earning points for those (double points in fact).

2.One Bonus Point will be awarded for such fixed amount of HK$ expenditure as shall be specified by the Bank from time to time. For this purpose, expenditure shall be the amount shown under "Purchases" (excluding cash advances, annual fees, finance charges, other charges and tax payment (to be announced by the Bank from time to time)) on each monthly Credit Card statement. Only Bonus Points shown as available on the latest issued monthly credit card statement and Online Rewards are redeemable.
SCB Platinum is a just an useless card for anything (I think I compared it to a foreskin - yes I did http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...l#post16237347)

If you have the opportunity to apply for another card and your online travel agent accepts Amex, get the DBS Black:

V. Other retail spending
i. (if Unionpay) (to 31 Dec 11) Bankcomm Diamond Dual Currency Unionpay Card - 1 mile per HKD4 spent for retail spending in all categories >= $300 ($100 flat redemption fee)
*** ii. (if Amex) DBS Black - 1 mile per $6 spent (no fee)*** iii. SCB PB VI - 1 mile per $7.5 spent ($300 flat redemption fee)
*** iv. Citibank Premiermiles - 1 mile per $8 spent (no fee)
v. BEA Plat or Shacom Plat/Titanium - 1 mile per $8 spent ($100 fee per 10,000 mile redeeemed)

Point of note: SCB Platinum does explicitly exclude online purchases to its welcome offer, but not for collecting normal points on spending:

4. Eligible transactions for spending requirement are retail purchases (including both local and overseas transactions) with sales slip issued. Any whole amount of instalment purchase, cash advances, online purchase, gambling tokens, utilities bill, tax payment via Phone Banking Services or Standard Chartered On-line, unposted / cancelled / refunded / falsified / unauthorized transactions are not included.
