New Star Reservation System

UNITED AIRLINES PRESS RELEASE

(UAL) STAR ALLIANCE LAUNCHES FIRST ALLIANCE RESERVATIONS SYSTEM DISPLAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Star Alliance has unveiled the first airline alliance Computer Reservation System (CRS) display allowing travel agents to check the schedules and availability of all Star Alliance flights in a single display. The new display shows both direct flights and connections offered by any Star Alliance carrier.
The new display will allow travel agents to respond quickly and easily to their clients' requests to view the many options that the Star Alliance network has to offer, providing them with a way to quickly present options to their customers who prefer to travel with a single airline alliance.
Individual Star Alliance carriers will continue to be displayed with their own two-letter airline codes in CRS systems.
Star Alliance was the first global alliance to specify requirements for a CRS alliance display, paving the way for other alliances to offer their combined flights according to the system users' alliance preference.
"We are pleased that the Star Alliance airlines were the first to launch the new alliance display in most major CRS systems," said Mr. Per Wehlander, Manager, CRS and Industry Affairs, SAS. "It is another example of our commitment to providing benefits for our customers and seamless solutions for our distribution partners."
Launched in May, 1997, Star Alliance airlines are Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Ansett Australia, Lufthansa German Airlines, SAS - Scandinavian Airlines, United Airlines, Thai Airways International and Varig Brazilian Airlines. ANA - All Nippon Airways will join the alliance in October, 1999, and Mexicana will join in the summer of 2000.
