Update & Resolution:

According to a German Forum (VFT) UA never shows the seatmap of flights under a different carriers Flightnumber (in this case BD operated by UA).

The solution was to add my Lufthansa miles and more number and change seats on milesandmore.com

The change was subsequently shown on united.com as well.
